Tech Tuesday!

Posted by wars128 on November 27, 2007

Today tech tues covers light Ferro Fibrous Armor. While LightFFA does not provide the same protection as regular or heavyFFA, it only takes up 7 criticals, making it perfect for those Inner Sphere designs that do not have a lot of available crits, such as the Yeoman. If you have a mech that has the space for it and ot one of the other two, I suggest that you go for it. Light FFA is for the Inner Sphere only. Sam

Posted by wars128 on November 26, 2007

Did you know that the Marauder has about 30 variants, including the Marauder IIC? Whew..if I ever get to the Marauder, that podcast is going to be like, an hour long!-I found this out at the Fan Articles section of the ClassicBattletech.com forums, where people discuss their favorite and not so favorite designs.

The Flood

Posted by wars128 on November 26, 2007

So its Wedensday afternoon. I’m home for Thanksgiving break and i’m enjoying it. Then, my phone rings. Seems that a sprinkler broke, and flodded half my floor, including my dorm room. But, since I was home already, I wasn’t able to check it out untill Sunday. Not much damage, though two school books are very wet, and a mostly ruined binder of notes..i really need to start taking notes on my laptop… They put dehumidifiers and fans in the room, whic I had hoped would be gone by sunday, but ..no luck. So, I spent one more night at home. Right now they are still here. The signon the door says Tuesday is the latest they will be here. If they dont get takin out today, ‘m either going to turn them off when I go to sleep, or sleep in a friends room. I got the introductory Box set this weekend. Its pretty nice. Played the introductory game, a Hunchie vs. a Enforcer, with my Hunchie barely winning. This weekend my friend and I will play our custom designs. Both are 70 tonners, his 6/4 w/ 2 LRM 10s and 2 Large Lasers. I haven’t made mine yet, but im leaning twords an upsized version of the Enforcer, with a PPC and AC5, I don’t know what else. Also, The resident MOTW writer for the offical forums is taking December off click here and he is opeing up for people to do ther own. I will be doing the Beowulf. Lets see, what else….I am working on a new show, still I have to upload the shows that ive pre recoreded before that one comes out, will try to get all that taken care of. Can’t wait for winter break! Wow, this has been a long post! Hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by wars128 on November 22, 2007

Today, instead of the usueual TRO, I’d like to list all the things im thankful for, and I invite you to do the same in the comments section. I’m very thankful for my family, who have to put up with all this Battletech and Podcasting silyness, my friends, which are a great group of guys. I’m very thankfull for Battletech, for if I never got into Batletech, I don’t know what i’d be into right now! Battletech has goten me in contact with some great people, ones that I am glad I kinda , sorta, know. I’m thankful for every single listener, every single one, even the ones who only listen to one show. I’m thankful to have my Resident Expert ghost0402, who has helped me so much battletech wise, in leraning about things, providing sugestions on some of my designs, as well as sending me some neat stuff. I wish all of you a very happy Thanksgiving.

Tech Tuesday!

Posted by wars128 on November 20, 2007

Today on Tech Tuesday I will be talking abot the compact cockpit. While it does save you a ton, which can be very usefull, it does add a plus 1 to each pilotig skill roll. If you really need or want the extra ton go for it, otherwise I wouldn’t really bother unless your willing to put a slightly better pilot in the mech, or put it in a light mech which is not going to last very long. With light mechs, where every ton matters, this can be very sefull in getting that extra ton needed for a full host of things. Since I have not played with the Total Warefare(TW) rules yet, I cannot say how it works. i am hoping on buying the new starter kit during the Thanksgiving break, and maybe gettng a friend to paly with me.

Mech Monday:Jumpers!

Posted by wars128 on November 19, 2007

I really have gotten to like mechs with jumpjets. The tactical flexibility they provide can be very usefull. Take this for example: There is a locist hiding behind a building. If I ran around the building, I would use up 10 MP, and would have to take many Piloting roles for runnign on concrete and roads. With jumpjets, I can just jump over the building, using only 6 MP. Neat, huh?

Weapon Wednesday: Heavy Lasers

Posted by wars128 on November 14, 2007

Ever wanted a one ton PPC? or a half ton medium laser, or a large laser that does double the damage of the original? For the person who craves raw firepower above everything else, the Heavy Laser series which was designed by the Clans.. While they put out tremendous damage for their size, they do have their issues. first of all, their range is the same as of thier old Inner Sphere counter parts. While that gives a distinct disadvantage fighting other Clanners, this is not as bad when fighting the Inner Sphere. Also, high heat and innacuracy is a problem, most of the time only semi fixed by generous amounts of heat sinks and targeting computers. Generally, I tend to avoid Heavy Lasers, because  I like a cool running mech, and it is hard to have a cool running mech with Heavy Lasers. For the person who is willing to drive his or her heat scale to the limits, and dosen’t care if they miss a bit more, and likes to fight really, really, close, you should use a mech with Heavy Lasers. Otherwise, i’d say avoid them, unless they are very limited in number on the design, such as the Blood Asp Prime. What got me thinking about this was messing around with the Solitare. Sure, its really powerful, but  it misses a lot and if it loses the initiative on a one on one fight, its screwed. Just thought some people might be interested.

TRO 3039

Posted by wars128 on November 12, 2007

It has been announced that a new TRO, TRO 3039 is being made. It is replacing 3025. From the Battle blog: ”  However, in that line we draw for new players, I believe Technical Readout: 3025 no longer really fits and actually requires a detour; i.e. it does not provide all the key elements we want and have incorporated into all the other core products.” Read more here.
I Apologize for the lack of updates, school is just kicking my tail right now. Until things quiet down on the homework front, there will not be a show. hopefully, at the end of this month things will wind down, and then it will only be a few days until winter break!
